Amanda Thomasson is a freshman Communications major from Stockholm, Sweden. She is a member of WVSU’s Women’s Tennis team and hopes to work internationally because she speaks three languages – Swedish, English and Spanish.

Here’s a little bit more about her:

Why did you choose Communications as your major? “I am very interested in communications and my plan is to emphasize on visual media. In high school, my profile orientation was media."

Why did you choose to attend WVSU? “I was recruited to WVSU Women’s Tennis team and found out that the university was an HBCU with long traditions for equality, which is very important to me.”

What do you like to do in your free time? “In my little free time, I prefer to hang out with my friends or just watch a series or film on Netflix.”

What would be playing if you started your car right now? “I would definitely play reggaeton, salsa or some other Latin music.”

What is the best part of WVSU, in your opinion? “The best part with WVSU is that it is like family and it’s all very close together – classes, the tennis courts, and the gym.”

What is a cause you are passionate about? “I’m very passionate about equality, especially from a gender perspective.”

Do you have any advice for others who may be interested in your major? “Just go for it! It’s a very interesting program and you will really have use of the knowledge it will give you.”

If someone visited Stockholm, Sweden, when is the best time to visit and what local places would you suggest they check out?  "I would say the absolute best time to visit Sweden is in summer. Summertime in Sweden is really beautiful. The capital Stockholm is very nice and cool and you can easily take boat rides both in and around Stockholm and out to the archipelago with 24,000 islands."
