Handshake

Handshake is a career network site which allows students and alumni to connect with employers, apply for both on- campus and off-campus job opportunities, and connect with their Career Services Office.  Employers use Handshake to post job opportunities and to register for campus events and career fairs.

FOCUS 2 is a self-guided career, major and education planning system designed to guide you through the steps of the career planning process. You can use FOCUS 2 at any stage of your education and career planning according to your personal needs. Start with any feature, repeat a feature if desired and use the system as an ongoing resource. All your results are saved and accessible in your FOCUS 2 Portfolio.

Suggestions for First Time Users
  • Begin with My Career Planning Readiness to understand the career planning process.
  • Learn about yourself using the Self-Assessments. Discover majors and occupations that match your personal attributes.
  • Explore Major Areas of Study that match your interests and support your career goals.
Suggestions for Returning Users
  • Use for ongoing career exploration.
  • Begin to solidify your career plans.
  • If applicable, begin thinking about advanced education and training.
  • Explore future options for transitioning into specialized occupations.
Getting the Most out of Focus 2
  • Use Focus 2 on any device; Computers, phones, tablets.
  • Save occupations and major areas of study that appeal to you as you are working through the different sections.
A good strategy after using Focus 2 is to think about your results, and discuss your ideas with the Office of Career Services.
 

Career Closet
 

West Virginia State University has established a career closet, located on campus, that is managed by the Office of Career Services. The Career Closet will provide WVSU students with business professional clothing for interviews, career fairs, formal events, and/or any career-related functions, both on and off campus.
 
The Career Closet is available to all West Virginia State University students seeking to expand their professional wardrobe. Donations are accepted from faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and businesses.
 
Scheduling an appointment
Students can schedule a visit to the Career Closet by completing the request form at https://forms.gle/rA1eyitZqFyz2cmY9. Please schedule an appointment at least 24-48 prior to the event in which the clothes are needed.

Donations
Appropriate items for donation include business suits, blazers, dress shirts, blouses, professional slacks, skirts, and ties. (Business shoes must be new or in like new condition to be accepted.) Items need to be appropriate for career fairs, interviews, and professional work environments. All donation items must be cleaned appropriately.  Damaged or dirty clothing items and items without sizes clearly labeled will not be accepted. We will not accept any undergarments, hats, used/worn shoes, or jewelry in the Career Closet.
 
The Office of Career Services reserves the right to donate any clothing deemed unacceptable for the Career Closet to a local charity within the community.
 
When are donations accepted?
Monday- Friday 8:30 am-5:00 pm during the academic year.
 
Where can donations be dropped off?
Donations may be dropped off at the Office of Career Services, located at Wallace Hall, 108.
 
Are donations tax deductible?
Donations are tax deductible, and a receipt will be provided upon request. The donor is responsible for determining the value of their donation.
