Beyond the classrooms and research laboratories, the West Virginia State campus offers a wide variety of experiential opportunities and activities for both students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community. From speaker series to arts and culture, student-led activities, community service projects, there is always something at State's bustling Institute campus. 

WVSU competes at the NCAA Division II level, with games on campus throughout the year. Whether it is football on Lakin Field in the fall, or basketball in the D. Stephen and Diane H. Walker Convocation Center in the winter, and soccer; or  softball, baseball or tennis in the spring, and many other intramural team sports; there is always a way to participate and show your Yellow Jacket spirit.

We strive to become the leader in serving the needs and aspirations of our communities and region through expanded community relationships, institutional reputation and visibility,  and active engagement.
