Business Administration involves the study of a wide variety of topics related to all types of for-profit and non-profit organizations. Specific Business Administration areas available for study at WVSU include: Accounting, Energy Management, Finance, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems, and Marketing.


Students who have a degree in Business Administration find a diverse array of available career opportunities. Some graduates start and oversee operations of  their own businesses while other graduates find positions as cost accountants, IRS agents, state auditors, bank examiners or FBI agents. They may also find work as bank loan officers, corporate marketing executives, certified financial planners, insurance specialists, management information systems executives, energy executives, or database administrators. Others find positions as business consultants, human resource managers, government agency executives and public agency officials.

In addition to our flexible class schedules for our on-campus Business Administration program, WVSU offers fully online degree programs for students seeking a Business Administration degree in Accounting and Management.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Concentrations:

Students must choose one of the seven areas of concentration reflecting their particular interests: accounting, energy management, finance, international business, management, management information systems, and marketing. Post-Graduate Programs:
  • Accounting - 33 Hours
    • ​This program is designed to facilitate career changes and/or advancement for business and non-business baccalaureate degree holders.   • Energy Management Program – 18–20 Hours Informational Brochure
    • This program is designed to facilitate career changes and/or advancement for baccalaureate degree holders. At least 12 credits of required courses must have been completed at West Virginia State University after completion of a bachelor’s degree. Based upon an undergraduate transcript evaluation, a faculty advisor may require applicants for admission to the program to complete prerequisites for the required certificate courses. There are two options available in this program: upstream and downstream. Upstream is commonly known as the exploration and production sector. Downstream commonly refers to the refining of petroleum crude oil and the processing and purifying of raw natural gas, as well as the selling and distribution of natural gas and products derived from crude oil. For more information contact Deborah Williams dwilli13@wvstateu.edu.
 Bachelor of Applied Science
Requirements for Admission to the Program are that a student must possess an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree from a regionally accredited institution as well as meet the general requirement for admission to West Virginia State University. Students must complete a minimum of 24 hours from West Virginia State University to be eligible for the degree.120 hours required for graduation. AAS Degree-Minimum of 60 hours upper division requirement-at least 39 credit hours must be 300/400 level coursework. For more information contact Deborah Williams dwilli13@wvstateu.edu.

ACBSP Accreditation

The Business and Economics Departments have received an additional academic accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). ACBSP is a specialized accrediting organization that reviews the quality and integrity of business degree programs.  Accreditation by ACBSP is based on an independent evaluation of an institution’s business school or program by a group of professionals, which include faculty and academic administrators in the field of business. This additional accreditation provides the following benefits:

Dean's Business and Economics Student Advisory Board
The Dean's Business and Economics Student Advisory Board is comprised of student members focused on continuous improvement of the Business and Economics departments. Through leadership activities and forums, student members champion change and improve areas of the Business and Economics departments surrounding student driven suggestions. Delta Mu Delta is a business honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities to create a DMD community that fosters the well-being of its individual members and the business community through life-time membership. Alpha Sigma
Alpha Sigma is an accounting honor society that recognizes academic excellence in Accounting coursework for students pursuing a carer in Accounting or a closely related field. Additionally, Alpha sigma is purposed to inform its members about the future an accounting degree offers, networking with local, regional and national accounting professionals, and opportunities for professional skillset development.
