West Virginia State University Hosts Grand Opening of WVSU Center in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia State University (WVSU) hosted a grand opening celebration today for its new WVSU Center located at 107 Capitol St. in the heart of downtown Charleston.

WVSU President Ericke S. Cage was joined by Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, and other state and local officials to celebrate the opening of the new center which is designed to serve as a hub for social and economic mobility for the state and region.

“This is a great day for West Virginia State University as we officially open our WVSU Center to the community,” said WVSU President Ericke S. Cage. “This center will be home to a number of transformative programs that will empower citizens of the city of Charleston and the surrounding region to advance in their lives and professional careers.”

The WVSU Center will be the home of the new WVSU Center for Public Leadership. The Center for Public Leadership will house a number of academic programs designed for public and non-profit sector employees to advance in their careers, including the university’s new certified public manager program, a certificate program designed for state and local government employees. The Center for Public Leadership will also house the university’s master of public administration program and the forthcoming doctorate degree in educational leadership, the university’s first doctoral program.

In addition to serving as the home for the Center for Public Leadership, the new WVSU Center will also house offices for the WVSU Extension Service, the WVSU Foundation, and for Yellow Jacket Enterprises, a new entrepreneurial investment entity created by the university.

The WVSU Center will also be utilized as a space for community events such as lunch and learns featuring university subject matter experts, and a new speaker series to be moderated by President Ericke S. Cage called “Conservations on Leadership.”

Space in the center will also be available for rent for alumni and community groups. For more information on rental opportunities email WVSUCenterEvents@wvstateu.edu.
