WVSU Extension Service and WVU Extension Educator to Host Tree Site Assessment Webinar

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service's WV Tree Minders and Ohio County West Virginia University (WVU) Extension Educator Karen Cox will be holding a webinar from 11 a.m. - noon on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, on site assessment for tree planting.

In this webinar, participants will learn how to predict and prevent infrastructure conflicts created by planting the wrong tree in the wrong place. Cox will identify the important site and tree characteristics that must be considered for selecting the proper tree and teach how to properly measure drainage, provide irrigation, calculate needed soil volume for different-sized trees, and more.

Cox earned her bachelor’s degree in Forest Resources Management at WVU and her master’s in forestry from Purdue University, and is an associate professor for WVU Extension. She is based in Ohio County and is also the Founding Chair of the Wheeling Tree Board.
