West Virginia State University Day at the Capitol set for Wednesday, February 16

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The State Capitol building will be swarmed by hundreds of Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, February 16, for West Virginia State University Day (WVSU) at the Capitol.

The event will bring WVSU students, administrators, faculty and staff to Charleston to meet with West Virginia lawmakers, university alumni and the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Informational displays will be set up outside the House and Senate Chambers of the State Capitol presenting the variety of educational offerings to be found at WVSU, as well as information on student services, admissions, extension services, athletics and alumni events.

If you are interested in attending, the University will be providing a shuttle from campus to the Capitol and back again on February 16. The shuttle will depart campus from the Ferrell Hall bus stop on the half-hour as follows.

7:30 a.m. pick up at the WVSU Ferrell Hall bus stop
8:00 a.m. drop off and pick up at Capitol
8:30 a.m. pick up and drop off at WVSU
9:00 a.m. pick up and drop off at Capitol
9:30 a.m. pickup and drop off at WVSU
10:00 a.m. pickup and drop off at Capitol
10:30 a.m.  pickup and drop off at WVSU
11:00 a.m. pickup and drop off at Capitol
11:30 a.m. pickup and drop off at WVSU
Noon pickup and drop off at Capitol
12:30 p.m. pickup and drop off at WVSU
1:00 p.m. pickup and drop off at Capitol
1:30 p.m. pickup and drop off at WVSU
2:00 p.m. pickup and drop off at Capitol

The shuttle will depart the Capitol to return to campus at approximately 2:15 p.m.

For anyone driving themselves to the Capitol, free parking is provided in the parking lot directly beside Laidley Field. KRT provides transportation from Laidley Field to the Capitol. There are also a limited number of metered spaces available on the Capitol grounds.  The Capitol building opens at 7:45 a.m. and there are security checkpoints that visitors must pass through.
