West Virginia State University Board of Governors Selects Presidential Search Firm
 AGB Search Will Work with Presidential Search Committee to Identify WVSU’s Next President
 
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Board of Governors (BOG) has voted to retain AGB Search to assist in the search process for the next president of the University.

The higher education consulting company will work with a 16-member presidential search committee to identify the 12th president of WVSU.

“With the leadership of AGB Search and the appointed presidential search committee, we expect that this search will be inclusive, collaborative and transparent,” said WVSU BOG Board Chair Charles E. Jones., Jr.

The presidential search committee will be chaired by Charleston area attorney and WVSU BOG Secretary Katherine Dooley and is composed of a cross section of the University community including representatives of students, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and the local community.

In addition to Dooley, Presidential Search Committee Members are:
  • Dr. Ann Brothers Smith. Search Committee Presiding Officer, WVSU BOG member;
  • Charles E. Jones, Jr., WVSU BOG Chair;
  • Mark Kelley, WVSU BOG Vice Chair;
  • Gail E. Pitchford, BOG member;
  • Deja Smoot, WVSU BOG Student Representative;
  • Dr. Frank Vaughan, WVSU BOG Faculty Representative;
  • Trina Sweeney, WVSU Director of Campus Life for Student Life and Engagement;
  • Mark Pendleton, Chair, WVSU Foundation President;
  • Nate Burton, WVSU Director of Athletics;
  • Dr. Lateef Saffore, WVSU National Alumni Association President;
  • Betty Spencer, WVSU National ‘W’ Club;
  • William Sawyers, Retired Director, Nationwide Retirement Solutions;
  • Kathy Ferguson, Real Estate Management;
  • Dr. Jose Toledo, Associate Vice President Research and Public Service, WVSU Research & Development Corp.;
  • Dr. Sarah Armstrong Tucker, Interim Chancellor, West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
 
According to a timeline for the presidential search proposed by the BOG and approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, screening of candidates will take place through the spring, with a goal of having finalists on campus for interviews April 27-May 1.
