West Virginia State University to Host Regional American Chemical Society Awards Banquet


INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) will host the Kanawha Valley Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, in the James C. Wilson Student Union on the University’s Institute campus. 

The awards will honor outstanding science students from several area schools as well as ACS members who have served their community or had significant careers in the chemical industry. 

The event will recognize some of the top-achieving students on the Chemistry Olympiad, as well as 60-year members of the ACS and the Volunteer of the Year.    

Dr. David G. Perry, President of the West Virginia Department of Education, will provide the keynote address.          

The following schools will be in attendance:
  • Bluefield High School
  • Calvary Baptist Academy
  • George Washington High School
  • Herbert Hoover High School
  • Independence High School
  • Oak Hill High School
  • PikeView High School
  • Poca High School
  • Ripley High School
  • Riverside High School
  • Winfield High School
