West Virginia State University Students’ Work Featured at Undergraduate Research Day

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Nine West Virginia State University (WVSU) student research projects will be showcased at the State Capitol as part of the 16^thAnnual Undergraduate Research Day Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. until noon in the State Capitol rotunda, and will feature research posters from students representing 15 colleges and universities throughout the state. This year marks the first time WVSU has served as the lead organizer of the day’s events. 

WVSU student research on display will include the following:

• Hunter Aliff, “Gene mapping of Soybeans and Biochemical Responses to Stress in Potato;”
• Christopher Bias, “Synthesis of a Binding Ligand to Detect Aqueous Metal Ions;”
• Zedan Martin, “Membrane Steroid Receptors in Brain Tumor Cells;”
• Jonathan Musselwhite, “WVSU Suborbital Payload for RockSat-X 2018;”
• Ja'Keshia Peterson, “Preliminary Molecular Assessment for the Phylogenetic Analysis of Crataegus species in West Virginia;”
• David Stone, “Ligand Attempts and Synthesis of 2, 3, 4-tri(2-methylbutanoate) glucose;”
• Daniel Sunderland, “Additional Sequencing of the Mitochondrial ND1 Gene of Paraorygmatobothrium of Sharks;”
• Chinyere Ugwuanyi, “Anti-tumor effects of novel organometallic compounds;” and
• Oruada Ukiwo, “Ages of degradation state 3 craters near Valles Marineris revisited.”
