WVSU’S Social Work Program Recognized as the Most Affordable in West Virginia

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) bachelor’s degree in social work program has been recognized as the most affordable social work program in West Virginia by socialworkdegree.org.

The online resource organization researched a total of 413 college and university social work programs and ranked them based on a combination of Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation, tuition rates, and PayScale salary data. WVSU was ranked No. 1 in the state of West Virginia followed by Shepherd University, Marshall University and West Virginia University.

Earlier in 2019, WVSU’s social work program was recognized as one of the most affordable in the nation for 2019-2020 by HumanServicesEDU.org. WVSU was the only college or university in West Virginia to make that organization’s list of the 101 most affordable bachelor’s degree in social work programs in the country.

WVSU’s social work program’s accreditation was reaffirmed by CSWE in 2017 for eight years until 2025. The WVSU social work program has been continuously accredited since 1974.

Accreditation by the CSWE means that a program has met the standards for quality set for by the organization. Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to apply for a social work licensure in every state in the country where licensing at the bachelor’s level is required, including West Virginia.
