WVSU Workshop Focuses on Fruit Tree Planting and Backyard Orchard Management
 
INSTITUTE, W.Va. –West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will host a workshop on fruit tree planting and backyard orchard management Monday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Jackson County Junior Fairgrounds in Cottageville. The event is free to attend.

The workshop will cover the basics of fruit tree planting and backyard orchard management and production.

“This workshop will help participants learn the basics of small-scale and backyard fruit production,” said WVSU Extension Agent Brad Cochran. “Whether you are interested in two trees or 20, this workshop will give you all the information you’ll need, from variety and rootstock selections, soil testing, planting and management.”

The event also features a community beautification component. Participants will have the opportunity to assist in planting more than 80 fruit trees on site at the fairgrounds.

The Jackson County Junior Fairgrounds is located at 157 County Farm Road in Cottageville.

The workshop is offered in collaboration with West Virginia University Extension Service’s Jackson County office.
