West Virginia State to Host “The Woman in the Room” Film Screening April 25
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – A special screening of the film “The Woman in the Room” will take place Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 7 p.m. in the Fannin S. Belcher Theater located in the Davis Fine Arts Building on West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) campus.
The film is an adaptation of a Stephen King short story and was made entirely by WVSU communications students and faculty. The screening is free and open to the public.
“We’re beyond excited to screen a project that is the result of months of hard work by the students and faculty of the Department of Communications and Media Studies, and we hope it will continue the long-standing tradition of departmental filmmaking that began at WVSU over 30 years ago,” said WVSU Communications Instructor Roger Echols, who served as cinematographer on the film.
The process of adapting the short story to the screen began in the spring of 2016 and more than 18 WVSU students were involved in bringing the movie from concept to the screen. Echols and Communications Professor Ali Ziyati served as co-executive producers for the film.
That film was adapted as part of King’s “Dollar Baby” program, which allows aspiring filmmakers to adapt select works of the author for $1.
