West Virginia State University Posts Increased Enrollment for Fall 2016
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) posted a fourth consecutive year of increased enrollment with the fall 2016 semester according to figures released today.
Speaking during his first State of the University Address, WVSU President Anthony L. Jenkins said that total enrollment for the fall 2016 semester stood at 3,514 students, an increase of 11 percent over fall 2015 attendance.
“This growth in reputation and enrollment – combined with the exceptional leadership and stewardship across the University -- has led to a stronger brand and greater confidence in State by our constituents,” Jenkins said.
First-time, full-time freshmen enrollment was up from 356 to 413 students for the fall 2016 semester, an increase of 16 percent from 2015. In addition, the University’s high school early enrollment program saw a 48.5 percent jump in students from 839 to 1,246.
The University also saw a 9.85 percent increase in the enrollment of in-state students, a 10.5 percent increase for out-of-state students, and a 60 percent increase among international students.
In addition to increased attendance numbers, the academic profile of students entering the University was strong with first-time, full-time freshman showing an average GPA of 3.1, an average ACT store of 20 and an average mean two-part SAT score of 908.
Final enrollment figures for the fall 2016 semester will be released in October, as part of WVSU’s annual reporting to the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
