the Humanitarian Legacy of Pearl S. Buck

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University (WVSU) College of Business and Social Sciences will host its fall convocation “Celebrating the Humanitarian Legacy of Pearl S. Buck” beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The convocation will be held in the WVSU Erickson Alumni Center and will feature Taek-Myung Kwon, the executive director of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, Korea, who will talk about his organization’s mission.

The event is free and open to the public.

Born in Hillsboro W.Va., Buck would go on to leave a legacy as the first woman to receive both the Pulitzer and Nobel prizes for literature. Known for her book, “The Good Earth,” Buck spent the first 40 years of her life in China and upon returning to the U.S. in 1934, worked tirelessly as a cultural ambassador between the two countries. Her work today is carried on through the foundation she established. For more information, visit www.pearlsbuck.org.
