West Virginia State Students, Professor Recognized for Public Relations Work
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University (WVSU) chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) was named the Student Chapter of the Year for the state of West Virginia at the 2016 Crystal Awards.
Sponsored by the West Virginia Chapter of PRSA, the annual Crystal Awards recognize excellence among public relations professionals as well as among student groups.
In addition to being named the top Public Relations Student Society of America group for West Virginia, the WVSU chapter also received a Diamond Award for their promotional campaign in support of the film “37 Fallen.”
WVSU Communications Professor Dr. Trevellya “Tee” Ford-Ahmed, was recognized as the Educator of the Year at the awards ceremony, which took place June 15 at the West Virginia Culture Center.
The Educator of the Year award is given to a PRSA member that contributed greatly to advancing public relations education through teaching. Ford-Ahmed is retiring this year after a nearly 30-year career at WVSU.
The students also received an honorable mention award for their integrated communications campaign, “Taste of Nepal,” which raised over $700 in donations to the Shangri La Orphanage in Nepal, which was destroyed after an earthquake.
