West Virginia State University Day at the Capitol set for Tuesday, Feb. 18
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The State Capitol building will be swarmed by hundreds of Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, Feb. 18, for West Virginia State University Day (WVSU) at the Capitol.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin will present WVSU President Brian O. Hemphill with a special proclamation in the Governor’s Reception room at 11:30 a.m. In addition, both the House of Delegates and the State Senate are expected to pass resolutions proclaiming the day as West Virginia State University Day.
The annual event will bring WVSU students, administrators, faculty and staff to Charleston to meet and mingle with West Virginia lawmakers, University alumni and the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
“This is an exciting time at West Virginia State University. With a near 50 percent enrollment growth for our first-time full-time freshman in fall 2013 to the renovation and expansion of the Convocation Center at Fleming Hall and construction of our first new residence hall on campus since 1969, the University’s passion for excellence and student-centeredness is abundantly evident,” said WVSU President Brian O. Hemphill. “We look forward with sharing these exciting WVSU advancements and more with our elected officials.”
More than 40 displays will be set up throughout the upper rotunda of the State Capitol presenting the variety of educational offerings to be found at WVSU, as well as information on student services, Yellow Jacket athletics, admissions and alumni events.
