West Virginia State Convocation to Examine “Food, Fat and Fitness” Oct. 29

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – With high rates of preventable diseases affecting many West Virginians, the West Virginia State University (WVSU) College of Professional Studies will focus its Fall Convocation, "Food, Fat and Fitness," on health.

The free interactive session will include hands-on activities to promote positive health behaviors as well as lecture and discussion, Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 12:30 p.m. in the Erickson Alumni Center.

“I am excited to be speaking for the College of Professional Studies Convocation. I expect it to be informative, but also fun and interactive for the participants,” said Dr. Jenelle Robinson, Assistant Professor and Health Science Program Director at WVSU.  Robinson will deliver the keynote address. “Hopefully, the session will spark healthier behaviors amongst participants that may decrease their risks of preventable diseases and illnesses.”

Issues like obesity, along with associated diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease can be partly attributed to poor dietary habits and sedentary lifestyles, Robinson added. The environment can also present challenges of eating healthy and regularly exercising. Through the Convocation, participants will learn healthy dietary habits as well as exercises to do within a limited amount of time.
