WVSU Professor To Discuss New Book Thursday, Nov. 8
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – A new book about an influential 20th century French writer, by a West Virginia State University professor, is set to be released in February by Dalkey Archive Press.
“Approaching Disappearance” by WVSU Assistant Professor of English Dr. Anne McConnell explores the work of French writer Maurice Blanchot, who is considered one of the most influential figures in 20th century French literature and criticism.
The book focuses on Blanchot’s work and then applies his thought to the reading of several short stories by writers such as Franz Kafka and Jorge Luis Borges.
“Approaching Disappearance” is scheduled for release Feb. 14, 2013, but those interested can get a sneak peak later this week as McConnell will discuss her work as part of the WVSU faculty lecture series.
McConnell is scheduled to speak Thursday, Nov. 8, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 103 of Davis Hall on the WVSU campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
McConnell is in her sixth year of teaching world literature, literary criticism, and writing in the English Department at WVSU. “Approaching Disappearance”is her first book to be published.
She received her doctoral degree in comparative literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Founded in 1984, Dalkey Archive Press publishes contemporary fiction, poetry, literary criticism, and works in translation. It is located in Champaign-Urbana, Ill., and is supported by the University of Illinois.
