Patricia J. Schumann Named Vice President for University Advancement

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Patricia J. Schumann has been named vice president for University Advancement at West Virginia State University. Schumann comes from Davis & Elkins College, where she has served as vice president for College Advancement since 2003.

In that role, she was responsible for the College’s fundraising and alumni relations programs and provided leadership for the $25.5 million Centennial Campaign. Prior to her appointment as vice president, Schumann served Davis & Elkins College as director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, director of Development, and director of College Advancement.

Previous to Davis & Elkins College, Schumann held positions as coordinator of Marketing and Public Relations for the West Virginia University Department of Ophthalmology, and as production editor for The Psychological Corp. in Cleveland, Ohio.

“This is a critical hire for State,” said University President Dr. Brian O. Hemphill. “Pat brings the direct experience with capital campaigns and annual giving in West Virginia that we need at WVSU to build a solid Alumni and Foundation infrastructure.”

Schumann earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University of Dayton. In addition to service in several professional organizations, she has been active with the Elkins Rotary Club, serving as President in 2008-2009; the Elkins Randolph County Chamber of Commerce; American Association of University Women; College Aid Society; Literacy Volunteers of America; and Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church. Schumann and her husband Tom Ditty have three children, Stephanie Tyrpak, Brandon Ditty, and McKenzie Ditty.
