WVSU Extension to Host Winfield Third Graders

11/17/2011

Third grade students from Winfield Elementary School in Putnam County will visit the campus of West Virginia State University (WVSU) on Friday, November 18, for a day of educational activities provided by WVSU Extension Service.

Events will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wilson University Union on campus. Staff members from various WVSU Extension Service programs, as well as the University’s Center for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (CASTEM), will be on-hand to share educational activities with students that focus on active lifestyles, nutrition, science, agriculture and others.

The event is the first time WVSU Extension Service has invited elementary school students to such an event on campus. “We want to provide for students an instructional and interesting field trip experience,” says Bill Woodrum, Associate Dean and Associate Director of WVSU Extension Service. “This venue will provide not only the educational component of what extension programming has to offer but will also provide exposure to a college campus environment.”

Students will arrive on campus at 9 a.m. Activity sessions will commence at 9:30 and end at 12:45 with a break for lunch at 11.
