WVSU Extension Service hosting holiday wreath-making workshop

INSTITUTE, WV – West Virginia State University Extension Service is hosting a holiday wreath and centerpiece-making workshop in conjunction with Putnam County Parks in the Valley Park Community Center located at Valley Park in Hurricane. The event will take place on Tuesday, December 6, at 6 p.m.

For a $20 fee, workshop participants will receive all the items needed to create their own wreath or centerpiece with hands-on instruction on technique, including how to find good materials directly from the landscape.

“It’s easier than you may think to create beautiful holiday décor using items that can be found right in your own backyard,” says Scott Byars, Program Leader for Agriculture & Natural Resources with WVSU Extension Service.

WVSU Extension Service has offered similar workshops each holiday season for the past several years. This event is the first to be cosponsored by Putnam County Parks.

“We’re thrilled to work with Putnam County Parks on what has always been a very popular offering of ours,” says Byars. “We encourage children to attend as well for the opportunity to create a pinecone bird feeder free of charge.”

A Putnam County location is not new for this particular workshop. The Hurricane Walmart has been a host site in the past. Other workshops have been held in the Kanawha Valley and on the WVSU campus in recent years, but the Putnam offering is the only one scheduled for the 2011 holiday season. Registration is required by calling the Putnam County Parks office at 304-562-0518 extension 10.
