West Virginia State University is a public land-grant university located in Institute, West Virginia. Founded in 1891, it is one of the original historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) established after the Civil War. Today, WVSU offers over 70 undergraduate and graduate programs across several colleges to around 3,500 students. Its attractive 100-acre campus features both historic and modern facilities. WVSU takes pride in its legacy of affordable, high-quality education and producing accomplished graduates.

WVSU is located just a few miles from Charleston, the capitol of West Virginia, and within easy driving distance from major cities in five bordering states.

With 3,514 students and a student faculty ratio of 17:1, students are able to learn in a comfortable, supportive environment, while experiencing the opportunities associated with a much larger university.

Founded in 1891 as a Historically Black College (HBCU), WVSU has evolved to serve a population that is richly diverse in ethnicity, geography, residential/commuter, high school graduates and adult learners.
