The Board of Governors is the principal policy-making and advisory body on all matters relating to, and affecting the university’s mission. In fulfillment of its fiduciary responsibility its members work with the President to approve policies, strategic goals and resources for programs and services.
The West Virginia State University Board of Governors (BOG) was created by the West Virginia Legislature as its governing body (§18B-2A-1). Consisting of nine members appointed by the Governor of West Virginia and three elected representatives by students, faculty, and staff, the BOG sets the annual budget and determines policies for operation and control of the University. Among the powers given, is the power to appoint a President, and delegates broad authority to the President to operate the University.

The following meeting dates for AY 2024-2025 were approved by the West Virginia State University Board of Governors at its June 13, 2024, meeting. Meetings are typically scheduled in the Grand Hall of the Erickson Alumni Center.
