We’re Glad You’ve Joined Yellow Jacket Nation!
Set Yourself Up for Success
Your Yellow Jacket pride is beaming in your first days. We share in your excitment and wish to support your success as you get to know your supervisor, team, facility, and goals.
â–şFamiliarize and Get Things Done on Day 1
You’ll collaborate closely with your supervisor in the coming days. They’ll answer all questions related to your school or unit, including how the work in your area aligns with the goals of the University in support of our mission. Expect to meet colleagues, review your area’s strategic plan, and discuss the specific procedures and expectations of your role.
â–şSchedule Benefits Orientation **Please note that enrollment in benefits coverage is not automatic!**
If you are eligible for benefits, you have the month you are hired and the following two calendar months to select and enroll in the WVSU benefits program. Coverage for Medical and Basic Life becomes effective on the first day of the month following the date of employment or enrollment, whichever is later, provided that the employee is actively at work on the day coverage becomes effective. Participation in the Employer sponsored retirement plan is mandatory, contributions begin immediately. Employees have the option to enroll in the after-tax Standard Long Term Disability plan during the first month of employment.
It is never too early to consider your benefits needs since you’ll be making your benefits elections soon. Click here to be directed to the WVSU Benefits Office webpage.
â–şClaim your “A number”
New employees use their “A Number” to claim their Employee ID Card, parking pass, and to establish certain passwords, which are used to access WVSU technology systems, such as MyState and Webmail (University’s email). Claim your “A Number” by contacting the Department of Human Resources.
If you have not already claimed your “A Number”, please do so on your first day.
â–şAccess your WVSU email account (webmail)
After you have obtained your “A Number”, review the instructions on how to set up your Webmail
â–şSign up for campus warning messages
The WVSU Campus Warn System allows the University to quickly communicate health and safety-related emergency information through a combination of various methods such as email and text messages. In the event that information needs to be communicated to students and employees immediately, WVSU will use several information delivery methods to make sure the pertinent information reaches you.
