Research is an important part of the undergraduate experience. Students engage in enriching research experiences that allow them to explore their intended majors, develop relationships with faculty in their field, and cultivate critical thinking skills.
Ultimately, the program objectives are to improve the retention of promising, high-achieving first-year students—particularly first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented minority students—by providing the academic and psycho-social support necessary to facilitate a seamless transition from high school to the sophomore year of college.
WVSU has partnered with Marathon, NSF/EPSCoR, and the U.S. Department of Education to develop the Research Rookies program which provides stipends for freshman and sophomore students who engage in yearlong research projects.
Successful candidates must be highly motivated, have a strong academic performance, and a commitment to discovery. Â
Applications are due by the beginning of the Fall Semester (exact date TBD). Apply Now
Students admitted to the Research Rookies Program will be paired with a faculty member in their field of interest for an innovative research experience.
