Susan has over 35 years professional experience, the last 27 years in the practice of providing quality accounting and tax services.
Susan’s practice includes many individuals, small businesses and nonprofit organizations. Many individuals throughout West Virginia and across the nation have relied on Susan’s expertise in tax issues to prepare and file their annual income tax return. Small businesses have benefited from accounting services such as preparing payroll, monthly bookkeeping, accounts receivable and accounts payable, quarterly and annual tax reporting as well as QuickBooks consulting and general business advice.
Nonprofit organizations are a priority for Susan and have become a specialty niche. In addition to providing services that small businesses employ, Susan has expert-level knowledge and experience in fund accounting, grants management and financial reporting, establishing and implementing quality financial policies and procedures, preparing and presenting financial reports to Boards of Directors, fund development software implementation and use, nonprofit management advice, and assisting organizations prepare and manage financial audits, including A-133 audits as required.
Recently, Susan completed a 16-week Full Stack Developer Bootcamp offered by Mined Minds Foundation, Inc and has become skilled in creating apps and websites. She is currently gaining additional social media skills through an online class from Geeked Out Media in Arizona.
In the last quarter, Susan successfully completed a certification course in Genealogical Research from Boston University.
A native of Charleston, West Virginia, Susan graduated from Marshall University twice. In 1984 she graduated with cum laude honors with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management. In 2003 she was awarded a Masters in Business Administration and was elected to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma based on her excellent academic record. She also completed academic work at West Virginia State University in accounting.
Not only is Susan dedicated to serving her clients, she is also aware of the need for financial expertise and direction within community oriented organizations. She is currently serves on the City of Nitro WV Civil Service Commission, Secretary of the Nitro Area Chamber of Commerce and Treasurer of two nonprofit organizations, the Nitro Development Authority and KYOWVA Planned Giving Council.
Susan has served on the Advisory Committee for the School of Business at BridgeValley Community and Technical College, developed and has presented a quarterly workshop in Beginning QuickBooks for the Workforce and Economic Development Division of BridgeValley and has served as an adjunct instructor at BridgeValley in accounting. Additionally, she has previously served as Treasurer for the Kanawha Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the West Virginia State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as a district director for the national Daughters of the American Revolution. At this time, she is pursuing membership in Magna Charta, a genealogical society for direct descendants of the guarantors of the Magna Carta, signed on June 15, 1215. She has also been appointed to numerous national task forces to study accounting issues for the Alzheimer’s Association.
