Mr. Matthew Carroll

Chair of Accounting / Assistant Professor

Professor Carroll is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Finance at the College of Business and Social Sciences at West Virginia State University. His credentials include: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). His experience in private and public accounting spans over fourteen years with both privately held and publicly held entities in both an administrative capacity and consulting capacity. During his time in higher education he has served as both an administrator and faculty member holding the positions of Department Chairperson and Faculty member.

Professor Carroll has taught a variety of courses in the areas of Accounting including: Cost Accounting, Auditing, Intermediate Accounting, Business Finance, Business Forecasting and Fluctuations, Fraud Examination, Investments and Oil and Gas Accounting. His research interests are: impacts of advanced technologies on the accounting and auditing professions, Securities and Exchange Commissions (SEC) Accounting disclosures, fraud motivators, fraud mitigation, and online learning. He actively networks and partners with CPA Exam review providers to help students make informed decisions regarding their efforts in preparing for the CPA exam.
