Dr. Azam Bejou

Professor/Director of Academic Internship Programs

Dr. Azam Bejou is the Founding Director of Special Academic Initiatives, Founding Director of Academic Internship Programs, Director of National Center for Human Relations and tenured Associate Professor of Management at West Virginia State University,

At WVSU, Dr. Bejou has six years of administrative experience. In her administrative roles she has built partnerships with local entrepreneurs, businesses, organizations, and state agencies, which has led to the development of more than 80 academic internships at WVSU. She developed comprehensive internship manual and guidebook for all academic programs for the university. She assisted organizations, businesses, students, and university faculty to assess and evaluate the learning outcomes for all university academic internship programs. As the Director of National Center for Human Relations (NCHR), she has co-founded and co-chaired the International Human Rights conference from 2014 to 2017. NCHR focuses on three areas – Domestic relations, interfaith relations, and race relations. In her role as tenured Associate Professor of Management, at WVSU, she has taught Business Information Skills, Advanced Business Internship, Organizational Behavior, Entrepreneurship, International Management, and Personal Finance in online classes using Moodle and Sakai LMS. Dr. Bejou has provided support for the program review process with ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs). She has also received several training programs from ACBSP – (1) accreditation site evaluator, (2) Best Practices in Assessing Student Learning Outcomes, and (3) Aligning program-level student learning outcome to course-level student learning outcome.

Prior to WVSU, Dr. Bejou served as director of internship and assistant professor of management at Elizabeth City State University. Dr. Bejou has extensive experience with online education at both Elizabeth City State University and West Virginia State University. She has developed and taught fully online classes since 2011 in all areas of management and business administration and is trained in Quality Matters, Sakai, Moodle, and Blackboard.

Dr. Bejou areas of research are business compassion, customer satisfaction, ethics and social responsibility, management information systems, and shared governance. Dr. Bejou has published nine academic articles. She has published in the Journal of Relationship Marketing, Proceedings of the Eighteenth American Conference on Information Systems, and Allied Academies International Conference. She is the recipient of the PEER (Promoting excellence in education through research) research grant 2015 and PEER research grant 2018. She is a member of editorial board of Journal of Relationship Marketing, member of the board of Sankalpa Journal of Management & Research, reviewer of ACBSP Transnational Journal of Business, reviewer of Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, and reviewer of Journal of Relationship Marketing.

She earned her MBA with Management Concentration and a Doctor of Education with Educational Administration & Supervision from Virginia State University.
