The purpose of the Department of Art is to provide the student with undergraduate competencies in the theoretical and applied forms and processes of visual art.
Bachelor of Arts in Economics (BA)
The Department of Economics, Finance and Marketing offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with concentrations in Business Economics, Agricultural Economics/Agri-Business, and Social Science.
Bachelor of Arts in History (BA)
The History program prepares students for careers in fields such as information management, museum curation, and government roles, as well as further academic pursuits.
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BA)
The Political Science program emphasizes highly qualified faculty, proximity to the State Capital, and a student-centered approach to education, empowering graduates to contribute meaningfully to their communities and society at large.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (BA)
Psychology students are presented the necessary information, skills, and experience to prepare them for graduate school, careers, or both. Students will gain a comprehensive view of psychology as a legitimate area of science, while likewise emphasizing the practical importance of the subject matter in their daily lives. Sociology students delve into the scientific study of social life, exploring a wide range of topics from family dynamics to cultural beliefs. With its broad scope and relevance, the Sociology program prepares students for applied research, and theory in diverse fields.
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (BA)
Sociology is the scientific study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociologists investigates the structure of groups, organizations, and societies, and how people interact within these contexts. Since human behavior is shaped by social factors, the subject matter of sociology ranges from the intimate family to the hostile mob; from organized crime to religious cults; from the divisions of race, gender and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture; and from the sociology of work to the sociology of sports. In fact, few fields have such broad scope and relevance for research, theory, and application of knowledge.

The Department of Health and Human Performance offers degree programs in Health Science, and Sport Studies. The department is committed to preparing students in their pursuit of knowledge and skills to become responsible members of society, while encouraging life-long learning; to enhance the quality of life within a diverse society.
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Sports Studies
The Bachelor of Science Program at West Virginia State University prides itself in currently being the only college and/or university in the State of West Virginia that is recognized nationally by the NSCA’s National Education Recognition Program. This particular recognition recognizes programs at accredited institutions of higher learning that meet the national standards set forth by the NSCA.
Bachelor of Science in Biology (BS)
The department of Biology exists to provide students with an opportunity to learn about science in general and about the science of Biology specifically. Courses are designed to serve a diverse community of students planning careers in science, medicine, or allied health sciences; planning careers as science teachers; and those with an avocation interest in living organisms.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BS) - Accounting
Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting are provided a structure and environment in which they develop skills, acquire knowledge, expand their ability to understand complex business situations, and achieve a level of overall maturity and sophistication expected of a business professional.
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BS) - Management, Management Information Systems
Students in the Business and Economics programs may pursue concentrations in Accounting, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Economics, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Management and Management Information Systems.
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BS)
Depending on the option chosen, students are prepared for graduate studies in chemistry, or immediate employment in industry, or entry into professional schools such as those of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Civil and Engineering/Chemical
West Virginia State University offers Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Civil and Engineering/Chemical. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: “Employment of civil engineers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2023 to 2033, faster than the average for all occupations. About 22,900 openings for civil engineers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. With continued investment in U.S. infrastructure, civil engineers will be needed to manage projects that meet society's need for upgrading bridges, roads, water systems, buildings, and other structures. Civil engineers also will be needed to oversee renewable-energy projects, such as construction of wind farms and solar arrays, as these projects gain approval.” According to WV Economic Outlook 2023-27, chemicals manufacturing continues to represent the single-largest manufacturing subsector. Indeed, roughly 20 percent of manufacturing jobs in the state and a two-fold larger share of output are found within across a range of chemicals manufacturing firms. WVSU’s Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Civil and Engineering/Chemical programs will produce graduates well prepared for the needs of the state and the region.

Communications
The communications programs of study are designed to provide the undergraduate student with competencies in the theoretical and practical disciplines within a broadly defined concentration. Communications is an interdisciplinary area of study, utilizing diverse perspectives from the fields of humanities, social sciences, and information technology.
Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership Studies

Master of Education in Instructional Leadership (MEIL)
The Master of Education in Instructional Leadership program creates opportunities for educators to expand their skills and advance into administrative positions. The curriculum is focused on the exploration and application of new techniques and concepts that help instructional leaders to create pathways to success for students and staff members.
Master of Media Studies
The M.A. in Media Studies is an integrated, interdisciplinary program intended for students with a traditional undergraduate education and some experience in communications and digital media.
Master of Public Administration
The College of Business and Social Sciences at West Virginia State University offers a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree for those interested in public management and service. The MPA degree prepares students for careers in the public and non-profit sectors, and offers those already in public service the opportunity to enhance and hone their competencies.
Master of Science (MS) in Criminal Justice Administration
The Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration prepares students for careers in the field of criminal justice and will enhance the careers of those already in the field. The program is designed to be completed within six semesters and includes a comprehensive final examination.
Master of Science (MS) in Sports Studies
The MS in Sport Studies program will develop the professional knowledge skills and dispositions of Sport Studies candidates.

Modern Foreign Languages
The Department of Modern Foreign Languages offers degrees in International Studies-Foreign Language (i.e.,French or Spanish). In addition, two certificate options are available and open to students and the community as a whole: Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish, and Certificate of Proficiency in French.
Music
The Department of Music provides rich opportunities for students at WVSU. Whether a music major, music minor, or music lover, students can play or sing in excellent music ensembles, take private lessons from exceptional professional musicians, and expand their own love for and understanding of the musical art through performance and study.
Regents Bachelor of Arts
The Regents Bachelor of Arts (RBA) degree program is the University’s only non-traditional degree. The degree, designed especially for adult learners, allows students to enter the program four years after high school graduation.
