INSTITUTE, W.Va. – A ceremony to honor well-known actor and West Virginia
State
University (WVSU) alumnus Lou Myers will take place Friday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. in the Della
Brown Taylor Hardman Art Gallery of the Davis Fine Arts Building on the school’s
Institute campus.

WVSU will host a series of research seminars on a variety of environmental topics beginning Tuesday, Sept. 26, with a session on biology, water quality and community ecology.

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University ROTC Hall of Fame will
add a new member during an induction ceremony Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Fannin
S. Belcher Theater of the Davis Fine Arts Building.

booster organization, the National “W” Club, will induct 10 new members
into
the Sports Hall of Fame with a brunch at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, in the James C.

2017 Homecoming with a variety of activities held at the school’s Institute campus
beginning Sept. 23 and concluding Sept. 30.

An alternative growing method for fresh vegetables is helping feed the citizens of
Welch,
W.Va., thanks to an initiative led by WVSU Extension Service. The University’s
aquaponics system, installed at the Welch Armory, recently produced 150 pounds of fresh
lettuce
that was donated to residents of a local housing community.

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) has launched a new
loyalty program designed to freeze tuition rates of high school students who participate in
the
University’s early enrollment, or collaborative programs.

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The second annual Fall Festival on the Quad (FQ) will take place on the campus of West Virginia State University (WVSU) Sunday, Sept. 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

WVSU’s Healthy Grandfamilies program will expand its reach into Clay and
Jackson
counties with sessions beginning this month. The program provides education, support and
resources to grandparents who are raising one or more of their grandchildren.

Homecoming
5K Run/Walk will take place Saturday, Sept. 23, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the plaza of the
James
C. Wilson University Union.

WVSU Extension Service will host a series of free workshops on a variety of
agricultural
topics at Sprouting Farms in Talcott, W.Va., beginning with a Pest Management for Vegetables
session Tuesday, Sept. 12.

West Virginia State University (WVSU) students participated in a successful launch of a
NASA suborbital sounding rocket at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia in August.

The Kanawha Valley Local Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS), which includes
the West Virginia State University (WVSU) ACS student chapter, has received a national
ChemLuminary Award from ACS for its volunteer work during the 2016 flood relief efforts.

WVSU Creators Program includes events featuring a variety of well-known West Virginia
musicians, including “Mountain Stage” host Larry Groce and guitarist
Michael
Lipton, and offers a session for artists interested in 3D animation.

The Ravenswood Memorial Tree Program, a collaboration between WVSU Extension Service
and
the City of Ravenswood, won two awards for its community enrichment efforts at the 48th annual
West Virginia Municipal League Conference, held this month in Morgantown.
