INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Two members of West Virginia State University’s
(WVSU) U.S. Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Yellow Jacket Battalion
were
commissioned United States Army Second Lieutenants on Friday, Dec. 12, during a ceremony at
the
state capitol building.

partnered with the Kanawha Institute for Social Research and Action (KISRA), the West Virginia
Department of Agriculture (WVDA), the West Virginia Army National Guard and the West Virginia
AgrAbility Project on a new agribusiness initiative designed to promote agriculture enterprise
development, expansion and sustainability among minority and veteran farmers in central and
southern West Virginia.

Today, West Virginia State University (WVSU) Vice President for Business and Finance,
Melvin Jones, announced his retirement effective June 30, 2015. Jones has held a variety of
leadership roles during his tenure at State including consultant, assistant professor and,
most
recently, Vice President for Business and Finance.

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
West Virginia Space Grant Consortium (WVSGC) has awarded $17,000 in funding to West Virginia
State University (WVSU) to bolster Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
research.
