SCRATCH Huntington

SCRATCH Huntington

Cultivating Young Agripreneurs since 2012

The SCRATCH project was born from the idea that by planting a seed, a world of change can happen. With a mission of bringing local food and homegrown products to Huntington, WV, SCRATCH, (Sustainable Community Revitalization in Appalachia Through Children’s Hands) provides hands-on opportunities for at-risk youth to learn sustainable gardening. We combine science, technology, engineering and mathematics with entrepreneurship to create a 4-H program geared towards kids in Kn – 8th grade. Kids participate in all aspects of garden production and management., learning everything from sustainability and production to propagation through the use of the Junior Master Gardener Curriculum (JMG). We are currently partnering with the A.D. Lewis Center and Ebenezer Community Outreach Center, with hopes of expanding the program to other afterschool programs in 2020.
