Shanté Ellis is a proud native of Brooklyn, New York, who has called West Virginia home since 2016. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Shanté continued her academic journey by obtaining a master’s degree in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction. As a Certified Diversity Professional with a certificate in Civic Engagement from Harvard University, Shanté leverages her expertise in inclusive leadership, stakeholder engagement and community collaboration to expand economic opportunities for diverse populations.
Shanté’s leadership and service have been recognized through several distinguished honors. Most recently, she was named the 2024 Visibility Award recipient by the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence in recognition of her commitment to expanding access, creating opportunities and fostering a sense of belonging across communities throughout West Virginia.
As Director of the WVSU Economic Development Center, Shanté is committed to advancing West Virginia’s economic future by empowering entrepreneurs, supporting small businesses and fostering innovation. Looking ahead, she plans to expand opportunities for business development training, mentorship and entrepreneurial support while strengthening partnerships that connect individuals and businesses with the resources they need to succeed. Through strategic leadership and community collaboration, she aims to cultivate an environment where innovation thrives, businesses grow and communities prosper. Her vision is rooted in the belief that when people are equipped with the right tools, resources and support, they can transform ideas into lasting success and drive meaningful economic growth across the state.
