Meet the Team

Matt Browning, Director

Matt Browning received his bachelor’s degree in Communications from West Virginia State University in 2004 and his master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University in 2009.

From 2002 to 2021, he worked with WVSU Agricultural Research and Extension in various capacities, including as Director of Communications (2012-2021) and Communications Specialist (2006-2012), where he helped established the communications department in 2006. He hosted the Extension Matters television series and edited the quarterly publication Extension Matters, led the award-winning marketing campaigns for Extending Knowledge/Changing Lives and the West Virginia Urban Agriculture Conference, and has won multiple awards from the Association for Communication Excellence.

From 2021 to 2025, he served as part of the communications team for the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, providing support to 4-H and nutrition programs and speechwriting for agency leadership. He returned to WVSU Agricultural Research and Extension Communications in the spring of 2025.

In addition to his work at WVSU, Matt is a published author of pop culture books and co-owns an independent bookstore in South Charleston, West Virginia.

Alisha Jarrett, Writer/Editor

Alisha Jarrett is a West Virginia State University alumna, graduating with a B.S. in communications with an emphasis in public relations and an M.A. in media studies with an emphasis in digital media. She also led the WVSU Charles R. Byrd chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) as president for two terms in 2018 and received the PR Student of the Year Award.

Alisha has executed several successful public relations campaigns, including videography for Child Law Services and the Sissonville Trail of Horrors, both of which won Crystal Awards from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She was an active member of the WVSU chapters of the National Broadcasting Society (NBS) and the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and proudly made the Dean’s List for five consecutive semesters.

Alisha joined the WVSU Agricultural Research & Extension Communications team as a writer and editor in May 2021 and is responsible for writing their leading annual publication, StateGrown magazine. Her feature story on an 1890 Scholarship recipient in the Winter 2023 issue was specially selected by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) for national promotion on all social media platforms and channels. Writing has been her passion since childhood; she enjoys building a career doing what she loves.

As a devotee of the arts, she also enjoys singing, dancing, acting, making people laugh, trying new things, traveling, attending Zumba classes and cooking healthy recipes.

Sean Fuller, Graphic Designer

Sean Fuller graduated from West Virginia State University in December 2022, earning a bachelor’s degree in art with a specialization in graphic design. With a strong personal and professional connection to WVSU, he is enthusiastic about contributing to the WVSU Agricultural Research & Extension Communications team as a graphic designer.

Sean aims to elevate the organization’s visual identity, aligning his efforts with its strategic objectives while fostering connections with students, alums and the wider community. He eagerly applies his skills and passion to support the team’s mission.

For Sean, WVSU represents more than just an educational institution; it is where he and his family—also proud alums—have created lasting memories. Through their involvement, he has come to appreciate the university’s unwavering commitment to excellence and its positive influence on the community.

In addition to his role as a graphic designer, Sean runs his own business, Sean Fuller Designs. He started this LLC after graduation to gain practical experience and expand his professional network. Outside of work, Sean enjoys unwinding at home, hitting the gym, spending quality time with friends, traveling and continuing to refine his design skills.
