Claudia L. Workman Wildlife Education Center
WVSU Extension Service is proud to partner with the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (WVDNR) to bring hands-on environmental education to life. Based at the beautiful Claudia L. Workman Wildlife Education Center in Alum Creek, West Virginia, our dedicated 4-H Extension Educators deliver immersive wildlife education programming designed to connect youths and families with the natural world. Â
Through interactive workshops, guided nature exploration and STEM-based activities, our program engages visitors in critical lessons about West Virginia’s native wildlife, habitat conservation and outdoor recreation, inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards right here in the Mountain State.Â

Destination Discovery
Discovery Days bring the high-energy excitement of experiential 4-H learning directly into classrooms, public libraries and community organizations. Expert 4-H staff guide youths through curated, hands-on workshops that spark curiosity, expose participants to new career paths and build essential teamwork skills.

Lending Library
To help K-12 formal and non-formal educators integrate hands-on design and real-world problem-solving, the WVSU 4-H Lending Library provides free access to themed Discovery Boxes fully loaded with ready-to-use curricula, materials and supplies. Specialized training is available to ensure educators can deliver the curricula confidently.

STEM Cybersecurity
Designed to prepare young people for an increasingly digital and connected world, the Cybersecurity program introduces participants to online safety, digital citizenship, cybersecurity concepts and problem-solving skills. Through hands-on activities, gamified challenges and interactive experiences, participants explore topics such as authentication, cryptography, social engineering, networks, threats and vulnerabilities, and basic coding. Participants learn how cybersecurity helps protect individuals, organizations and critical infrastructure while developing skills in teamwork, critical thinking and responsible digital citizenship. The program also provides opportunities for young people to explore cybersecurity as a STEM field and discover education and career pathways in this growing area.Â
