INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) softball player Mattie Best and baseball player Jack Hudson have been selected for postseason honors in their respective sports.
Best, from Hemet, Calif., has been selected to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region first team by Sports Information Directors in the region. She finished the season with a .409 batting average, 17 doubles, and 48 runs batted in.
The junior outfielder helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) tournament championship and a final record of 42-14.
Hudson, the Yellow Jacket’s designated hitter, has been named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region first team by a vote of the coaches as well as the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region squad.
The senior South Charleston native hit .399 with 10 home runs, 36 runs batted, and a slugging percentage of .656 as he helped lead WVSU to the WVIAC Southern Division title this season with a 30-18 mark.
