INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Dr. Walter E. Stroupe, associate professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at West Virginia State University (WVSU), has been appointed to the Governor’s Committee on Crime, Delinquency and Correction.
Stroupe will serve as a representative of the post-secondary education system. His term ends June 30, 2017.
“I would like to express my thanks to Governor Earl Ray Tomblin and the individuals responsible for nominating me to Governor’s Committee on Crime, Delinquency and Correction,” said Stroupe. “Serving on this committee will be an honor and privilege.”
Stroupe currently serves as Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Director of the Criminal Justice Administration Graduate Program at WVSU. He is a retired First Lieutenant, West Virginia State Police. Over the course of his career he served in Clay, McDowell, Logan and Raleigh counties as a Field Trooper, retiring as the Assistant Director of Training, West Virginia State Police Academy.
Stroupe was the first officer in the history of the West Virginia State Police to receive an academic doctorate degree while serving as an active member. He received his bachelor’s degree from WVSU and master’s and doctorate degrees from Marshall University.
Created in 1966, the Governor’s Committee on Crime, Delinquency and Correction strives to reduce or prevent crime and improve public safety in West Virginia by coordinating the efforts and impact of the criminal justice system.
