INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The No. 25 West Virginia State University softball team will be hosting “Lil Sis Day” Thursday, April 18, when the Yellow Jackets play Salem University at 4 p.m. in Institute.
The WVSU softball players and coaches began the “Lil Sis Program” in November and there are currently 19 “little sisters” in grades 1-8. Every girl that registers is allowed to choose a player from the team’s roster to become her big sister.
The Yellow Jacket player serves as a friend, mentor, and encouraging role model. Each “Little Sis” receives at least two letters per month from that player. This program allows young girls an inside look at college softball and the chance to stand beside those whose shoes they dream of filling one day.
On “Lil Sis Day” the girls will be given a t-shirt, allowed in the locker room for select pre-game activities, on the field for warm-up, and be introduced with their “Big Sis” before the game. After the game the girls will be guests at a pizza party with the entire team.
