INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will host a free venison workshop series on the University’s Institute campus beginning Thursday, Oct. 1. 

As deer hunting season begins this fall in West Virginia, the three-part series is designed to provide information on topics including herd management, carcass processing and meat preservation. 

The full workshop schedule is as follows. 

• Thursday, Oct. 1: Herd management and habitat
• Thursday, Oct. 8: Field dressing, skinning and carcass processing
• Thursday, Oct. 15: Processing and preserving meats

Each session will begin at 6 p.m. at the Dr. Hazo W. Carter Jr. Integrated Research and Extension Building, located at 200 Avenue A, Institute, West Virginia (building 36 on the campus map). 

Registration is not required to attend.
