Contact: Jack Bailey (304) 766-4109 jbaile19@wvstateu.edu INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service’s monthly Ag Talk Tuesday series continues Tuesday, February 9, at 6 p.m. EST with a discussion about mature tree care. WVSU Extension Service personnel will share information and answer questions with participants live via Zoom.
“Mature trees deliver more benefits to us because they are bigger, but this will not be the case if they are not properly maintained,” said WVSU Extension Agent Liz Moss, who will lead the discussion. “When is it time to call it quits and remove a tree? Who can you call to perform work on a large tree? These are all big questions, and mature trees can be costly to remove or remediate.”
Moss will teach participants about mature tree care, how to maximize the health of a mature tree, how to perform a basic visual inspection, what to look for when hiring a tree care provider, and when it may be time to remove a tree and plant a more appropriate species.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a ton of wood falling on your property and a ton of money coming out of your pocket,” Moss said.
The free series began last July and takes place the second Tuesday of each month. Participants register to join the live event and can submit questions ahead of time through the and platforms or via email.
