INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Learn how to produce your own pecans at a workshop conducted by the West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service Thursday, Jan. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at Braxton County High School. The workshop is free and open to the public.
“Pecan production in West Virginia is an agricultural product that hasn’t been grown commercially in the state for nearly 80 years,” said WVSU Extension Agent Brad Cochran. “With new, cold-hardy varieties that have been developed and an emphasis on locally-grown foods, now is the perfect time to look at pecan production in West Virginia once again.”
The workshop is funded by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant Program and hosted by the West Virginia University Braxton County Extension Service.
For more information, contact Brad Cochran at (304) 541-3301 or bcochran2@wvstateu.edu. Braxton County High School is located at 200 Jerry Burton Drive in Sutton.
