Contact: Kimberly Osborne (304) 766-3363 kosborne@wvstateu.edu INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will present a free series of workshops to help beginning and experienced gardeners learn a variety of agricultural growing and harvesting techniques on Wednesday, April 13, and Thursday, April 14, beginning at 10 a.m. on the WVSU campus in Institute.
The workshops will include sessions on topics such as fruit tree production and alternative growing methods.
“We are excited to expand our agricultural education outreach efforts to include alternative methods along with our more traditional production workshops,” said Melissa Stewart, assistant program director of WVSU Extension Service. “We will be covering a variety of topics that will open up both new and existing gardeners to some interesting growing methods, management practices and crop options.”
Topics on Wednesday, April 13, include strawberry production, pecan tree care and maintenance, and irrigation techniques. On Thursday, April 14, topics include aquaponic (soilless culture with fish) growing methods, grape production and harvest handling tips.
The workshops are free to attend and are supported by the USDA 2501 Grant Program.
