WVSU Criminal Justice Program Recognized as One of the Best in the Country

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University’s Department of Criminal Justice has been ranked as one of the best in the country by University Headquarters, an industry-leading educational organization.
In their rankings of the top 40 criminal justice programs in the country, WVSU’s was ranked No. 15. University Headquarters took into consideration data from College Navigator, Payscale and Collegescorecard as well as information such as tuition, admission rates, and graduation rates in determining their rankings.
“The West Virginia State University criminal justice faculty have a wide variety of field experience ranging from police officer, research analyst, correctional counseling and psychology, forensic investigator, victim specialist, attorney, to prison warden,” said Dr. Leighann Davidson, chair of the department. “With this professional experience, our faculty are involved in multiple projects within the criminal justice field and expose the students to an in-depth knowledge on criminal justice content.”
In their rankings, the organization cited WVSU’s offering of both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in criminal justice, as well as offering the flexibility of an online option.
“The criminal justice faculty have gained national recognition for their expertise and community engagement and have created partnerships with multiple agencies that offer internships and potential employment opportunities to our students,” Davidson added.
