INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) graduate student Dinesh Ghimire has been selected by the National Association of Plant Breeders (NAPB) as a 2022 Borlaug Scholar based upon his accomplishments, academic performance, letter of recommendation and passion for plant breeding.
This year’s highly competitive class of scholars includes 16 graduate and seven undergraduate students from across the country. The award includes a one-year NAPB membership and registration to the NAPB annual meeting hosted this year by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
Ghimire, who is pursuing his master’s degree in biotechnology, said he is very proud to be a Borlaug Scholar and is looking forward to traveling cross country in August to accept the award.
The NAPB Borlaug Scholars Program strengthens the plant breeding profession by helping to support attendance of future leaders at the NAPB annual meeting. The program is aimed at upper level undergraduate and advanced graduate students, each of which will be paired with a NAPB mentor committed to the recipient’s professional development.
The NAPB represents plant breeders in federal, state, commercial and non-governmental organizations. The association strengthens plant breeding to promote food security, quality of life and a sustainable future.
