West Virginia State University Vice President and Chief of Staff Eric L. Jackson Named to AGB Council of Board Professionals

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) Vice President and Chief of Staff Eric L. Jackson has been named to a two-year term on the AGB Council of Board Professionals, an advisory group of experienced board professionals, knowledgeable about the roles, responsibilities, and practices of effective governance for higher education boards.

Jackson has served his alma mater as vice president and chief of staff since 2022. In this role, he serves as liaison to the WVSU Board of Governors and to the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission as well as directing the president’s office staff and handling matters of policy and institutional importance. He also oversees the university’s Information Technology Department and the Office of University Relations. 

Jackson has been with the university since 2007 and previously served as director, Title III Programs and Budget Office, before moving into his current role. He has chaired, or co-chaired, several search committees for a variety of key leadership positions at the university in addition to serving as chair of the University’s former COVID-19 Task Force.

In addition to his role at West Virginia State University, Jackson actively contributes to the community. He serves on the board at the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center, who provide or coordinate needed resources for people, families, and businesses through integrated services, community partnerships, and opportunities; serves on the board of the Partnership for African American Churches (PAAC), a faith-based organization dedicated to community development and well-being; and serves as vice president for the Dream Chasers Board, an organization focused on empowering individuals to achieve their aspirations and youth development.

He is a financial member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and has held several leadership roles in the fraternity including local chapter president, secretary, state and local membership selection chair, District Marshal, and youth outreach/community outreach chair.
