West Virginia State University to Present Trombones de Costa Rica on Feb. 4

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) will present the chamber music ensemble Trombones de Costa Rica, on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. in the F. S. Belcher Theater of the Davis Fine Arts Building located on the school’s Institute campus.
The event is free and open to the public.
Internationally acclaimed Trombones de Costa Rica will share music from their two-decade journey as a trombone quartet. They will perform selections from a wide range of musical genres including Costa Rica, Latin America and standard classical repertoire. Paquito D’Rivera, Grammy-nominated saxophone and clarinet virtuoso and 2005 National Medal of Arts recipient, has described Trombones de Costa Rica as “one of the most interesting brass ensembles that I have heard in years.”
The WVSU Cultural Activities Committee in cooperation with the WVSU Department of Music, joined to bring Trombones de Costa Rica to the area.
On Thursday Feb. 4, Trombones de Costa Rica will teach a master class geared towards brass players between 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. in the band room of the Davis Fine Arts Building at WVSU’s main campus.
