West Virginia State University to Open Stinger Produce Market June 18

June 11, 2025

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) will open its Stinger Produce Market near campus on Wednesday, June 18. The market launched last year as a means to increase access to fresh, affordable produce for community members and WVSU students, faculty and staff members.

New for the market’s second year is the option of a Produce Subscription Box. For a cost of $15 each, the boxes will contain seasonally available vegetables that total three servings for each day of the week. Subscribers can pay weekly or set up a monthly payment option.

“The Produce Subscription Boxes are a great way to introduce and sustain fresh, healthy and locally grown vegetables into your daily diet and promote a healthier lifestyle,” said WVSU Extension Educator Austin Cochran.

The market is located along W.Va. Route 25, across the street from the University’s main entrance. It will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public.

For more information about the Produce Subscription Boxes, and local producers interested in selling to the market, contact Cochran at austin.cochran@wvstateu.edu.

The Stinger Produce Market was established with support from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Huntington National Bank.
