INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) will host a virtual commencement ceremony for its May graduates on Wednesday, May 13, at 3 p.m.
“Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing social distancing and safety measures that prohibit large gatherings we are not able to hold our traditional May commencement ceremony,” said WVSU President Anthony L. Jenkins. “However, we still want to celebrate our May graduates and all that they have accomplished during their time at West Virginia State University.”
The ceremony will be hosted via Zoom and will feature remarks from Jenkins as well as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. R. Charles Byers and Student Government Association President and May graduate Colleen Miller.
For those graduates who ordered caps and gowns, they have been mailed out this week, and graduates are encouraged to take photos of themselves and share on social media, using the hashtag #WVSUGrad2020.
“This is a special class, and we want to join together as the Yellow Jacket Nation to celebrate them for all they have accomplished,” Jenkins said. “I look forward to May 13 when we will conduct our first ever virtual commencement in STATE’s history.”
All May graduates are also invited to return to campus in December to participate in the University’s traditional December 2020 commencement.
