Cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers, as well as WVSU students, faculty and staff will join together for the first Relay for Life to take place on the school’s Institute campus. Relay for Life is one of the world’s largest fundraisers, with more than 6,000 events and more than four million participants in 2015.
Funds raised through Relay for Life go toward cancer research, providing free information and critical services for people with cancer, and supporting education and prevention programs.
Saturday’s Relay for Life will begin at noon with an opening ceremony and celebratory cancer survivor’s lap around the University Union.
In addition, there will be inflatables, games for kids, face painting and live entertainment, including a DJ. The Relay will continue throughout the day until midnight.
At 8 p.m. will be a Luminaria Ceremony where candles are lit in honor and memory of those who have battled cancer. Individuals and teams taking part in Relay for Life can take pledges to raise funds and awareness to help the American Cancer Society.
